UC IRVINE SUMMER SURGERY PROGRAM 2017
The 2017 Summer Surgery Program offers two, two-week intense sessions for mature high school students who are at least 16 years old, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and are currently enrolled in high school (2017 graduates are welcome to apply). Scholarships are available!!!!
Talented high school students, who qualify for the program, will have the opportunity to:
  • Observe live surgical cases 
  • Gain hands-on experience with our state-of-the-art da Vinci robot 
  • Learn actual surgical skills in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery through surgical skills workshops 
  • Become proficient and certified in Basic Life Support training and CPR 
  • Work in the UC Irvine Medical Education Simulation Center, a four-story center that includes a full-scale operating room, emergency room trauma bay, obstetrics suite and critical care unit 
  • Perform in-depth fetal pig dissection with an emphasis on the types of surgical cases the students will see in the operating room 
  • Interact and learn with a highly motivated team of surgical faculty, medical students and undergraduate students at all levels of training.
The dates for each session:
Session I: July 10th – July 21st 
Session II: July 24th – August 4th (room and board available for out-of-town/ international students)
USC SUMMER PROGRAM
USC  Summer Program is a 2-4- week summer residential program on the USC campus.This program provides support in: career exploration, admission & financial aid guidance, test prep, and leadership development. Tuition can range from $2600- $5000 depending on the length of program and on campus housing.

LA SANITATION PAID INTERNSHIP
Internship opportunity for Juniors and Seniors (class of 2017 and 2018). This is a six- week paid summer internship with the City of LA. Students will participate in the Introduction to Engineering and Science Program. with the Bureau of Sanitation. If interested in the sciences, i.e. engineering, this may be for you!
  • Six week paid summer internship 
  • June 20, 2016- July 29, 2016. 
  • $10 an hour to work 4 hours per day. 
  • Gain work experience and participate in workshops

AVIATION CAREER EDUCATION ACADEMY 
See the attached application/ flyer below listed as "LAX Aviation Careers Education." The deadline to apply is June 1st. Space is limited so apply as soon as possible! Check out the following YouTube video for more info on the program from the Los Angeles World Airports.
LEAD YOUTH SQUAD
The Lead Youth Squad (LYS) Member works independently and collaboratively with GRYD staff, the Program Coordinator, the Youth Squad team and program partners to oversee aspects of SNL program service delivery at one (1) identified site. The LYS will develop and supervise nightly team assignments, collect and report program activity information (food counts and activity counts), monitor supplies and maintain adequate inventories, and assist with program implementation and outreach.
REQUIREMENTS: MUST have previous employment experience with Summer Night Lights as a Lead Youth Squad/Youth Squad member. Prefer candidates with a minimum of 2 years of SNL employment experience
Hourly Pay Rate: $13.28 per hour Employment Period: 6/20/16 – 8/27/16

DEPARTMENT OF WATER & POWER PROGRAM/ YOUTH SERVICES ACADEMY INTERNSHIP
Open to all LAUSD (Senior class of 2017) students interested in working at the Department of Water & Power. Students will participate in an internship with LADWP personnel at the DWP Building in Downtown Los Angeles. Students work M- TH from 1-5pm and attend a Work Experience Education Class on Fridays from 1-3pm. Starting July 2016 students will be paid at least $10.50 an hour for work and earn credits for Work Experience Education. After graduation, students advance to $12.52 an hour. The Work Experience Class is required. This is a one- year program.
Program requirements:
1. Senior class of 2017 attending LAUSD high school
2. GPA 2.5 minimum
3. City of LA resident
4. Right to Work documents- Possess a valid CA ID/ Driver's License or valid US passport/ valid Alien registration card, social security card and birth certificate.
5. Afternoons must be open (1-5pm)
6. Reliable transportation to Downtown LA (1st & Hope St.)
7. Commitment to the program until the end of students senior school year. 
UCLA HIGH SCHOOL LANGUAGE PROGRAM
UCLA is offering special language classes for high school students who speak, understand, and or hear Armenian, Japanese, Korean, Persian or Russian at home and want to learn to read, write, and expand their listening and speaking skills. M-TH 9am- 2pm. $200 course fee. Noncredit. This course is designed to give students the college experience of a language class. Go to www.hslanguages.ucla.edu for more information.
UCLA INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE
The UCLA International Institute will offer a one-week length courses on the UCLA campus that will introduce intellectually curious high school juniors and seniors to critical analysis of the creative industries of Los Angeles, in particular fashion and food. These noncredit courses are designed to help students develop critical thinking and communication skills, and allow them to experience studying in a university academic environment. In the fashion course, students will explore fashion as a cultural practice, historical development, and consumer product, and consider the extensive influence of L.A.’s fashion industry on various aspects of the local and global creative economies. Through the food course, students will examine the various popular food movements in L.A.’s history and explore the role that food has played in the city’s social, cultural, and political development. Both courses invite students to learn from UCLA scholars, professionals, and local industry representatives about the ways in which fashion and food reflect and shape our urban landscape, culture, and society. The fashion course will be held Monday, July 11 – Friday, July 15, 2016. The cost is $800 and includes all course materials. Space is limited to 20 students. WOODBURY HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMY
Offered to high school students entering their junior or senior years. This program is offered for college credit and allows students to explore Woodbury's various disciplines. Introductory College Courses offered include Animation, Architecture, Communication, Fashion Design, Game & Art Design, Graphic Design, professional Writing, and Psychology. (2 or 3 units)

PRINCETON SUMMER JOURNALISM PROGRAM ( CLOSED) is offering an all-expenses-paid journalism and college preparation program at Princeton University for students from low-income backgrounds. Students learn reporting skills from celebrated journalists, report and write their own newspaper, and are paired with a counselor who oversees their college admissions process. SJP alumni have gone on to jobs at The New York Times, The New Yorker, NPR, and many other news outlets. Must have minimum 3.5 GPA and be interested in journalism. CAMP CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL LA (CLOSED)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work as a health care professional? Camp CHLA is your chance to explore these exciting health care careers! Join them for five full days of education, observation and participation in the daily activities of health care professionals at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
Camp dates: Camp #1 June 27 – July 1, 2016 OR Camp #2 August 1 – 5, 2016
The application will open online on Monday, January 11, 2016. Applications will close when 400 applications have been received or on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 5 p.m.
UCLA ENGINEERING TECH CAMP
This 4 week summer day-camp exposes participants to the creative nature of engineering through project-based, hands-on activities. Campers will experience working in HSSEAS’ Creativity Center along-side UCLA engineering student mentors under the direction of UCLA faculty and program staff.
Schedule: Tech Camp 1 – Monday, June 27, 2016 – Friday, July 22, 2016 (no camp July 4th)
Tech Camp 2 – Tuesday, July 26, 2016 – Friday, August 19, 2016

VAN NUYS LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS
Free Aviation Careers Education (ACE) Academy
Los Angeles World Airports’ Aviation Careers Education (ACE) Academy is open to all middle school and high school students with priority given to students in the neighboring areas of VNY. Students are selected based on desire to learn about aviation. This week long motivational program is designed to educate students about airport operations at both VNY and Los Angeles International Airport, as well as career and technical opportunities in the aviation industry.
SUMMER 2016:
July 11 - July 15 Middle School (grades 7th – 8th)
July 25 - July 29 High School (grades 9th – 12th)
BERKELEY SUMMER EXPERIENCE
The Berkeley Summer Experience, formerly known as the Cal Summer Experience and hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, gives selected prospective students an opportunity to learn more about Berkeley admissions, financial aid, housing, and other aspects of student life at UC Berkeley.
During the program, students will learn how to present a strong application for admission, get one-on-one support on their personal statements with an experienced admissions officer, and learn of the many resources and activities offered at one of the world's leading universities.

THE LA PEDIATRIC SOCIETY EVE & GENE BLACK SUMMER MEDICAL PROGRAM
The Los Angeles Pediatric Society established the Eve and Gene Black Summer Medical Career Program in 1969. The purpose of the program is to encourage high school students to choose careers in the health professions. This program is best described as a medical mentor program. Under the supervision of a health care educator/medical facility coordinator, participants shadow various medical professionals (nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, lab technician, physician and/or medical specialist etc.) who together provide a range of patient care services

UC DAVIS YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The UC Davis You Scholars Program (UCD- YSP) strives to engage 40 academically talented high school juniors and seniors in a variety of research experiences within the areas of biological and natural sciences. During the six week program students live in the university dorms and experience the climate and culture of a university campus while earning 5 units of credit.
 
SUMMER 2016:
June 19- July 30, 2016
Application Deadline is March 17, 2016. An online non- refundable application fee of $25 is required. Students wishing to request a waiver for the application fee should contact the program director ([email protected]) prior to submitting the online application. The anticipated cost for room and board for the six weeks, all field trips and activities is $6,200 plus a refundable $200 security deposit. FEE REDUCTIONS ON NEED ARE AVAILABLE FOR A LIMITED NUMBER OF STUDENTS. Please see application procedures for details.
